Image Search:
- You are able to search by Keyword, Image Id# and "Starts with" or Browse by Category
When searching by Keyword, you may enter one or several keywords for your search. It is important to note that the search is not case sensitive. You may use the words "and," "or," "but not" as separators. For example, if you want to search for birds in flight excluding eagles you may begin your search with "bird and flying but not eagle."
When searching by Image ID#, enter the 16 character image number. The image number format is AAA 000AAA000 00, where A is a letter character and 0 is a number. Do not use underscores ( _ ) like AAA_000AAA000_00. The image number is also part of the file name for digital images that you may have downloaded from our site, do not include the last underscore ( _ ) and letter from the file name (eg: AAA_000AAA000_00_P, to search enter AAA 000AAA000 00). Please note that not all of our images are on our web site. If you are looking for an image that was posted in a lightbox by our research staff or one that you may have used previously and are having trouble finding it, contact our research department at research@animalsanimals.com.
When searching by Starts With, enter the first few letters of a keyword. A useful hint: entering several letters increases the search speed. Select "Go" to view the list of keywords, and then select a keyword to view a selection of images.
Selecting an Orientation from the drop down option may also narrow Keyword and Starts With searches.
When browsing by Category, a choice of main categories will be displayed in the drop down menu. Select a main category to see a listing of subcategories. As you choose the subcategories, you may see additional category choices or a selection of thumbnail images for that category. During a category search, if you would like to choose another main category, select the category from the drop down list in the search field and select "Go" to view the subcategories.
Category searches tend to be broad searches and are good when browsing for ideas or just to get to know our collection. For a more defined search you should try searching by keyword.
Once you have entered your search criteria, select "Go" to view the thumbnail images. Select a thumbnail image to view the preview size. You must be a registered user and signed in before you can view a preview-sized image. Click here to register or sign in.

If you cannot find what you are looking for online, we probably have it anyway. We have an extensive library, not all of which can be found on our site. Contact our highly trained research department to request a custom search of our collection.

You must first be a registered user and signed in to have Lightbox privileges. After a search query is completed, several images will be displayed at a time. Under each image is a hyperlink that allows you to save the image to a Lightbox (The hyperlink will appear only if you are a registered user and have signed in).

A Lightbox can be e-mailed. The recipient will receive a hyperlink that will launch a browser and display your Lightbox. Image previews can be viewed by selecting a thumbnail. To e-mail a Lightbox, go to the Lightbox page, select a Lightbox, and then select E-mail Lightbox. You must be a registered user and be signed in before you can e-mail a Lightbox, but the person who gets the e-mail does not have to be registered to view it.
You have an option of e-mailing a dynamic or static lightbox. When you email your lightbox as dynamic, then the email message will contain a URL link to your lightbox. As you add/delete images to the lightbox, the viewer will see the changed lightbox. When you email your lightbox as static, then the email message will contain a URL link to the images that are currently in your lightbox. As you add/delete images to the lightbox, the viewer will not see the changes.

Comp Quality Images: A comp quality image may be downloaded for use in your presentations or layouts, from the preview screen. Click on the
icon below the preview image. If this icon is not displayed, that particular image is not currently available for immediate download. Contact our research department to request a comp resolution image. The image will be posted promptly and an e-mail notification will be sent once it is available. To use this feature, you must be a registered user and signed in. High Resolution Images: High Resolution files are available for immediate download to pre-approved clients. Click on the
icon below the thumbnail or preview image. This will add the image to a download order form. You may continue searching for additional images for your project and add them to the download order form. Once you have completed your search, click on "go to final step" at the bottom of the Download Order Form. - NOTE: As a pre-approved client, you are responsible for all high-resolution image downloads completed using your user name and password. Images will be saved on your current download order form until you have downloaded them or have removed them from the order. This is true if you close the download order during your search or if you leave our site and resume your search at a later time. You may access your current download order form from the search results page, preview page or the lightbox/download page.
Creating Multiple Projects With a Single Download: The download page allows you to download multiple images for the same project. If you are working on different projects, we suggest that you create a separate lightbox for each project. From the lightbox page you may then add the images to the download page and download the images one project at a time.
Completing the Download Order Form: Once you have completed your search and added the images to the download order, click on "Go to final step" at the bottom of the Download Order Form. You will be required to review and correct your contact information. If any changes are made you must check the "Update my personal information" box. You will then be required to complete the project information. Please note that this information will be used for issuing the usage license. All fields in bold are required. Any special billing instructions should be included in the "Other Information" box.
Once all required fields are completed on the download order form and you have agreed to the Animals Animals/Earth Scenes copyright policy you may then download your order. All available images will be placed in a zip file and you will be prompted to save this file. Extract all files in the zip file to the same folder. Then open the extracted readme file; this is the High Resolution Download Memorandum. A link to view the high-resolution files can be found next to each image in the memorandum. A notification will be sent to our research department requesting high-resolution files for any images not available for immediate download. These images will be posted promptly and you will be notified by e-mail when they are ready for you to download. Our office hours are from 9:00 – 5:00 EST.
NOTE: Some images may have certain usage restrictions. Images must be cleared prior to usage. Downloading images is not a confirmation that specific rights are available. Once a download is completed, a download confirmation is sent to Animals Animals/Earth Scenes. We will review the usage information and notify you promptly of any applicable restrictions. Availability of Images: While many of the images on the website are available for immediate download, you may come across some that do not have a high resolution file available. These images will be separated on the download order form. Once you have completed your high-resolution download a message will be sent to our research department with your request. These images will be posted promptly and you will be notified by e-mail when they are ready for you to download. Our office hours are from 9:00 – 5:00 EST.
Viewing Download Orders: Current and Past download orders may be viewed through the link on the Lightbox/Download page, the search results page or the bottom of the image preview page. The current download will contain all images added to a download order and not downloaded. Past downloads will include all of your download orders completed during the last year. From this page you are able to review any past download and/or download the images again if needed.
Usage/Licensing: As per the terms and conditions in the Animals Animals/Earth Scenes copyright policy, permission to use images is contingent upon payment of licensing fees. Invoices will be issued based on the information and instructions provided on the download order form.
